United Kingdom VAT
Last updated: June 26, 2026
The United Kingdom requires Lifted to collect a 20% Value-Added Tax (VAT) on applicable services unless a valid UK VAT ID is provided.
VAT charges may adjust based on location or account changes, and exemptions may apply. Always consult a tax advisor for personalized guidance.
What is UK VAT and why does Lifted collect it?
Value-added tax (VAT) is a tax applied to goods and services, including services provided through Lifted.
The United Kingdom requires Lifted to collect VAT and remit it to the UK government.
We’re required to comply with the tax laws of the countries where we operate.
Examples of Services Subject to UK VAT
Examples of services that VAT may apply to include:
Contract initiation fees
Conversion fees
Recruiter fees
Service fees
When we charge tax, it’s because the government requires us to. Applicable taxes, rates, and services may change in the future.
Tax Rate
The UK VAT rate is 20% of the cost of the service being taxed.
Example: On $100 USD in service fees, you’ll pay $20 in VAT, for a total of $120 USD.
When VAT applies, it will be included in your charges in accordance with UK tax regulations.
Providing Your VAT ID
If you provide a valid VAT ID to Lifted, we will not be required to collect this tax from you.
Lifted may verify the VAT ID you provide to ensure it is valid.
If you need to update your VAT ID or have questions about its status, contact your account team or Lifted Support.
UK VAT ID Format
Your UK VAT ID is a unique identifier — not your tax ID — that you may request from your government by registering for VAT in the United Kingdom.
UK VAT IDs contain 9 or 11 alphanumeric characters and begin with the country code GB or XI.
